Contest Judging Guidelines

Our judges will use these guidelines to judge this contest.

1. Story - 20 points - Is the story (a) clear, (b) memorable, (c) engaging, (d) innovative. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Screenwriting)

2. Cinematography - 10 points - Is the picture (a) consistent with good cinematography (framing, lighting, etc.), (b) effective for the web format, (c) motivated to help tell the story. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cinematography)

3. Performance - 10 points - Are the performances (a) believable, (b) effective at portraying their character, (c) well designed in makeup, costume, etc. (d) motivated to help tell the story. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acting)

4. Sound and Music - 10 points - Is the sound and music (a) clear, (b) consistent with good sound design, (c) innovative, (d) motivated to help tell the story. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sound_design, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Film_score)

5. Editing - 10 points - Is the editing and encoding (a) effective for the web format, (b) consistent with good editing, (c) innovative, (d) motivated to help tell the story. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Film_editing)

6. Scores should be in whole points. Scores are relitive to the videos in this specific contest not to other contests or videos.

7. These videos should be designed to work well for today’s Internet audience, in the same way that theatrically released films are designed to connect with audiences in theaters and on home entertainment systems.

8. Scores should reward innovation and effectiveness at conveying emotional intelligence.

9. Creative use of required elements should reflect positively in the score, but should not dominate how the overall story is rated.

10. When comparing videos that seem equal in quality, the film with the more memorable story should win.
