It looks like a nice camera, though not sure if it matches the price tag. The demo footage looked yuky though. Why?

Looks interesting. Lets hope it delivers! If it does I think I might buy one…

Fascinating project, but I’m not so sure it will supplant DSLRs anytime soon. The tiny 2/3” sensor (15 times less sensor area than 5D, 3.93 crop factor), default c-mount lens options, SD black-and-white video monitoring, and tough post workflow+media cost (less than 13 minutes of footage per two 32GB cards) will see to that.

Bizarre!  Hope the project succeeds, but I have to admit that I had the same questions as Stu when I was reading over what they were promising: if RED has struggled to perform up to expectations, are this dynamic duo actually able to deliver as promised?  But hey, it’s worth a shot, right?    So we’re all rooting for it to come to fruition.

Well the fact is if they succeed they’ll have a nice little camera for specific uses, but it seems no more handicapped and requiring of workarounds for pro-production use then DSLRs are for reasons previous stated.

DSLRs will always have their place.  Some people use a 5D for no other reason then the full-frame look it provides, which is unique aside from something like IMAX in terms of FOV & DOF.

There’s no “wonder camera” to speak of and never will be.  Still, I look forward to seeing if they succeed or not.

Like what I’ve seen so far. Perfect camera? Maybe not.  My T2i isn’t perfect either… but I still love her.

Stu’s followup softens the blow.  This could get interesting!
