Ash and I have made our final decisions, so Nathaniel should have those posted soon. Last year we started a thread to give feedback on specific entries and the reasons why we judged the way we did. People seemed to appreciate that, so we decided we’d do it again this year (at least until we become overwhelmed).
A few things to keep in mind:
- We were fairly specific about our top 5 - 10, watching multiple entries more than once to make sure our scores matched up.
- However, going further down the list, things become more subjective. It would be more appropriate to ask, “How could my film have been better?” or “Which elements did you subtract the most points for?” rather than asking, “Why is film X ranked higher than mine?” or “Why did you give film X’s sound a 3 when mine got a 2 and they sound exactly the same?” Before asking for feedback, compare your film to the top 5 rather than comparing it to the films directly above and below you.
All in all, the entries significantly improved over last years, and there were some real gems in there. Congratulations to everyone for successfully making a film in 36 hours, a not-too-small accomplishment.
