Calix, Paul, Tom, Eric, Brandon, Nathaniel, Jeremiah, Dallas, and I should all form a team ... wink

(We collectively compromise roughly half of the posts on the entire forum ...)

I’ve been a part of a website where member voting occurred and it got ugly.  Where this friend who had a video on it (that I help him make) would just send out mass emails of people to sign up, get registered and vote daily.  Some people just gave him the info to do it.  It gets pretty convoluted.  Like an american idol thing, where the best person might not when and the judges just look at the entry and say “well its what America wants…” and by America, they mean, the person with the most friends.

March is cool, 2 tiered entry participants could be cool, a little more on the entry fee isn’t too terrible bad.  I like the multiple security elements.  Honestly, I think the security elements are some of the best part…because then people with ideas, prepared scripts, etc may have to do some total reconstruction and/or brand new ideas if the security elements are tough.  Maybe a more stringent theme.  I partake, well used to more in the festivals, over on dvxuer and they have some pretty sweet fests and rules.

Just my $0.02 USD, but I’m new, so who knows.

Rock.

When Nathaniel and I talked about it, it was mostly side deal, nothing that effects results/ranking.

A member vote that just shows what we think of the video would be fine, but NOT a vote that decides the winner. I don’t enter into contests that decide winners based on viewer vote.

Even if the contests are decided by judges with a smaller people’s choice award as well?  The more prizes, the better…

The problem with that is that then there is a division on “Well, the audience choice award is the real award.”  While I think the videos are ultimately only worth what positive reaction they get from the audience, I don’t think it wise to have two separate awards.

The good thing about Doorpost was that the site required you to watch all 10 films in question to vote for your favorite.  Rather than just getting all of your friends to click a link and then a button in approval of whatever you may have created.
