Thorin’s hood was sky-blue with a silver tassel. I can’t remember what color his cloak was, Tolkien may not have said.
He played a harp and wore a chain around his neck.

Thanks!

What would I do without cf.org… wait, then this thing wouldn’t be happening! :)

Gandalf: the book says “he had a tall pointed blue hat, a long grey cloak, a silver scarf, and immense black boots.”
go where you will from there but try and keep away from LOTR movies version.

Bilbo: he should have a costume with suspenders, and another for the unexpected party, and another that he goes on his adventure in plus a dark green hood* and cloak.
(again try and keep away form the movie’s look.)

Thorin: traveling clothes and a sky blue cloak and hood, fine clothes at lake town, and armor from Erabor.

if there is any questions just ask!

*by hood i mean this

To be completely fair, I’m going to only show my designs to Joe via the forum, just like the rest of you, (instead of standing over him in a threatening manner while he views my work.)  wink

So, I havn’t done much with Smaug yet. Here’s some prelimenary sketches so I can start getting an idea of what the director likes and dislikes.

First page is just re-sketches of Tolkein’s paintings. I also noted down all the sentences from the book that described Smaug.

Next page is some bits and pieces of various animals that I’m borrowing from to start building my own Smaug.

If anyone, besides Joe, has any questions or suggestions, I’d love to hear them! (I know Joe’s going to comment, so, no need to ask him.)

i like the feet, and the wings. maybe some horns on his head would look good.
also pointer spike’s would be nice. and from what i see in your sketches his neck looks to short. his whole body shoulld be longer and thiner.

I’m done with my first one, but our scanner decided it doesn’t like Ubuntu. Well, actually there’s no driver for it or something. smile I’ll try to get a picture of it instead and get it posted by Friday or Saturday. smile

Sorry, Joe, I got sidetracked on some home projects.  Here are two similar but drastically different costume ideas.  What do you think?

i really like the fist one i think you should go with it, the second one is to fancy.

i’d like to see him with a shorter tunic and pants. also the sleaves should be square i think.

but i love the look going keep up the good work! (can’t wait to see it in color!)
