Thanks, guys!  I appreciate the compliments!

You all are doing wonderful work too!

I’m having a lot of trouble with Smaug.  :(  It looks like a need a lot more practice on dragon making! Anyway. Here is another rough draft. Let me know what you do or don’t like about it, Joe. And, as always, feedback from others is welcome too.

Leila, it might help you to think about the anatomy of your dragon (if you are not doing so already).  For instance, while I see a neck and jaw articulated well, but I do not see a chest cavity and belly differentiation.  Also, where the wings intersect the body, the joint looks too fragile: you might want to bulk up the bone/flesh structure there.  Otherwise, your dragon is nicely rendered.  I really like the texture on the dragon’s back and his head.

How does that sound?

Also, by square sleaves, you mean not torn and tattered at an angle, right?

yeah. i don’t realy like the torn look. i think if they had large cuffs it would look good.

Well, Joe a few things came up last night and I was unable to get this to you then.  But here are some possibilities based on your previous direction.  The next version will be in full color, based on whatever changes you need.

i like the third one with the pants stuffed into his boots. i would like to see pants wider and then stuffed into his boot tops.

(can’t wait for color!)

I was basing Smaug’s body on a crocodile but, from what our director has told me I think I’m going to need to switch to a more upright, dino type than a slithering reptile. And apparantly Joe doesn’t like the alligator back. I might try it again though on a different anatomy and see if he still feels the same way.

The latest Gandalfs are looking good! He’s starting to have a real Dutch- Colonial, Washington Irving style about him.

If you need help and insperation on the dragon’s body I would sugest google image-ing ‘Dragon anatomy’, or you could try useing the anatomic struckture of a cats torso.  wink  just my two cents I know how hard it is to draw dragons I have one thats stareing at me and waiting to be scaled. rolleyes

Thanks Naomi. I have been using google extensivly, so far. I really wanted to see more illustrations of Dinosaurs which seem strangly rare.  :?  If anyone has a website to reccommend I’d appreciate a link.
By the way Naomi, I assume that you are Tabitha’s little sister. Am I right? Almost entire families seem to be drawn to film production! At least, it seems that way around here!
