For some reason I’ve just recently become familiar with this event, probably because of my recent interest in social networking, and the fact that I will be passing through Austin on the day this starts.

Are any of you familiar with this event? Is it a party hard and have a good time crowd, or is there good useful information being taught? What about the music and film part, is it web related, or feature type films?

The ExpressionEngine folks always have a get-together at this event. (They’re the one’s who make the software this site runs on.)

A couple of Twitter users I follow will be there, along with Phillip Bloom and HowCast.

to answer your question, I have not been there, but it is one of the best indie festivals to go to.  Lots of networking opportunities I am sure!

From what I can tell SxSWi (South by South West Interactive) and from what I’ve heard on podcasts and other forums its mostly a lot of partying and drinking, mixed with social networking and technology.

Ya man, its Austin. What else is there to do there? See the state capital? haha :D

In all seriousness, the impression I get is kind of a cross between Sundance, The Warped Tour and a Tradeshow. I would like to go in the next couple of years, and think it would be worth it.

*edit* Wow, i looked at pricing after I posted, it has really gotten expensive. Like 500$ for the film portion. I would maybe save the money, stay with a friend in L.A. and go to siggraph.

From what I’VE heard, the partying is in the evenings after the events. tongue laugh

Anyway, it’s a great place for networking, and I’d be going for the (web) film related parts, and for the social networking discussions. I’d like to go next year, not sure how it would work out, and it’s kinda expensive.

Just found out that Tubefilter will sponsor a pass to 2011 SXSW Interactive for a web series creator who has never been before.
